Midnapore: Dalmia Cement
Bharat Limited (DCBL), India’s leading cement manufacturer and a subsidiary
of Dalmia Bharat Limited (DBL), held
a special showcase of its sustainable community development projects at its Bengal
Cement Works (BCW) production unit in Salboni, Midnapore. The company’s
initiatives under its Corporate Social Responsibility arm – Dalmia Bharat Foundation (DBF)
encompass diverse training programs for men, women and youth in neighboring
rural areas in both farming and non-farming sectors. The primary goal is to
empower these individuals and broaden their income opportunities ensuring
sustainable livelihood. Three of their significant initiative includes - World on Wheels (WoW), a digital
literacy programme that offers e-education and digital resources to the
underserved, Mat Craft Centre
empowering rural women through upskilling and enterprise development and the Rural Haat, a community market project
in collaboration with NABARD, serving farmers and community members to market
their produce promoting economic opportunities. The programmes reach out to 39
villages in the surrounding area, positively impacting over 30,000 lives, helping them to build a brighter
prospect for livelihood.
Commenting on the company’s initiatives in the region, Mr. Pankaj Gupta, Asst. Dalmia Cement has been
actively leading social transformation in the region through multiple
initiatives focused on sustainable livelihood development. Some of these
initiatives include –DIKSHa, skill development centre for youth;
micro-enterprise building via Self Help Groups through upskilling programs like
mushroom cultivation, candle making, handicraft production etc; WADI
development programmes for farmers under the Tribal Development Fund and many
more. The company has also initiated community connect programmes like
organizing health camps, promotion of sports, building community
infrastructure, contributing to the overall well-being of the region. Dalmia
Cement (BCW) was the recipient of the prestigious “GMF Green Feather Award,
2023” for its exceptional CSR initiatives in Midnapore.
