Kolkata : The theme of National Safe Motherhood Day 2025 is “Care for Caregivers”, a powerful call
to action to recognize and support the essential role of healthcare providers
in ensuring safe motherhood. Across West Bengal, the White Ribbon Alliance (WRA) West Bengal, with Child in Need Institute (CINI) as its State Secretariat, is leading
a month-long, state-wide campaign to highlight this theme and promote
respectful maternal healthcare.
“Care for Caregivers” emphasizes
the urgent need to address the well-being of those who provide maternal health
services — including doctors, nurses, midwives, and frontline health workers.
These caregivers are the foundation of safe deliveries and quality maternal
care, yet they often face long hours, inadequate resources, and emotional
exhaustion.
“Care for Caregivers is not just
a slogan — it's a commitment,” said Mr.
Sujoy Roy, State Coordinator, WRA West Bengal. “This year, we are
organizing month-long celebrations across West Bengal to honor caregivers and
push for policies that protect their health, dignity, and rights. Because a
system that cares for its caregivers is essential for building the world we want
— one where every mother survives, thrives, and is treated with respect.”
As part of this year's National
Safe Motherhood Day 2025 theme — Care for Caregivers, CINI is collaborating
with the Government of West Bengal to host events in multiple districts. These
include health worker appreciation programs, policy dialogues, community
engagement activities, and public awareness campaigns, all reinforcing the
importance of caregiver support in improving maternal and newborn health
outcomes.
Why
“Care for Caregivers” Matters:
· A healthy,
supported caregiver provides better care to birthing individuals
· Respectful
care reduces maternal mortality and complications
· A positive
work environment leads to compassionate, high-quality services
By embracing the 2025 Safe
Motherhood Day theme, we affirm that caregiver well-being is essential to the
success of maternal health systems.
This National Safe Motherhood
Day, let’s unite around the theme “Care for Caregivers” — because when
caregivers are cared for, every mother and newborn benefits.
