Balurghat : Setting yet another example of
comprehensive heart care at Manipal
Hospital, Mukundapur, a timely decision and expert care changed the course
of a 40-year-old homemaker and mother, Purabi
Sarkar Mondal from Balurghat, Dakshin Dinajpur, who had been silently
battling diabetes, hypothyroidism, and anaemia while managing her household
with grace. However, her health began to decline when she started experiencing
persistent fatigue, chest discomfort, and shortness of breath. Upon evaluation
by Dr. Parijat Deb
Choudhury, leading Interventional Cardiologist at Manipal Hospital Mukundapur, she was diagnosed with a 100% blockage
in the Left Anterior Descending
(LAD) artery (the LAD artery, which supplies blood to a large part of the
heart). Her critical condition could have proven fatal without urgent and
judicious intervention by Dr. Parijat Deb Choudhury and her team.
In
her case, her age and the combination of chronic illnesses, from erratic blood
sugar levels to low haemoglobin made the diagnosis even more critical. Recognizing
the urgency of her condition and the limited treatment options available
locally, she travelled all the way to Kolkata to seek intensive care from
distinguished cardiologist, Dr. Parijat Deb Choudhury. Under her expert
guidance, the dedicated team at Manipal Hospital, Mukundapur, left no stone
unturned to provide life-saving treatment. Dr. Deb Choudhury customized her
treatment plan, ensuring every aspect of her health was balanced before and
after the procedure. She underwent a painless, bloodless angioplasty without
anaesthesia, using a drug-eluting foreign stent. Her recovery was smooth, she
was discharged the next day and resumed normal life within a week.
Dr. Parijat Deb Choudhury,
Interventional Cardiologist at Manipal Hospital, Mukundapur, shared “Heart attacks in women under 45
are relatively uncommon. Women often experience more atypical symptoms like
fatigue, shortness of breath, nausea, or vague discomfort which often go
unrecognised in seeking critical care, increasing the risk of complications
later. In this case, what truly made the difference was the family’s awareness
and timely decision to seek specialised care. The fact that they recognised
something was amiss, felt the need for a second opinion, and travelled all the
way to consult a female cardiologist shows how trust and early intervention can
be lifesaving. It is a powerful reminder that listening to your body and acting
on it, can change the outcome entirely.”
Purabi Sarkar Mondal, shared
her experience and stated,
“Don’t ignore your symptoms. Trust your doctors. At first, I did not realize
how serious my condition was, but thankfully my family pushed me to consult a
specialist. Visiting Manipal Hospital and being treated by Dr. Parijat, was the
best call, I was given the proper treatment, reassurance, and the roadmap to
recovery. Now I am feeling better and resumed my daily routine.”
