Kolkata 04 July 2025:
Medella Karkinos Oncology Institute (Karkinos
Healthcare Kolkata) in association with Gramin Doctor Welfare Association organised
a day-long Cancer Screening Program (Cancer Early Detection Program) and OPD
Camp for around 150 people including men and women at Habra in North 24
Parganas. The objective of the program was to address issues like limited
access to cancer screening, cancer related myths and lack of awareness about
common cancer.
The
program aimed to highlight the importance of early detection in the treatment
of cancer, bridge the awareness gap regarding symptoms and risk factors, and
address barriers to accessing timely diagnosis and treatment.
A
health education program was also conducted to inform participants about the
various risk factors associated with common types of cancer. The participants also
underwent health check-ups and screenings for certain types of cancers like
head & neck, oral, lung, etc.
Dr. Akther Jawade, Director East, Karkinos
Healthcare said, “Cancer cases in West Bengal particularly
in rural areas are rising at an alarming rate. While various factors can lead
to cancer, the lack of
screening camps, awareness and myth associated with cancer also contribute to
mortality and high morbidity among the marginalised community. This can be significantly reduced through comprehensive cancer
education, organised screening initiatives, and early detection efforts. To
address this issue, Medella Karkinos
Oncology Institute (Karkinos
Healthcare Kolkata) has partnered with the Gramin Doctor Welfare
Association to raise awareness about cancer and assess risk factors among the
people of Habra region. At Karkinos Healthcare, our objective is to
create awareness about importance of regular health check–up, risk factors
associated with cancer and prevention among the people.”
A
highly experienced Medical Team headed by Dr. Souvik Ghosh, Clinical Oncologist
and Dr. Samiran Chakraborty of Karkinos Healthcare Kolkata was present to
conduct the cancer screening program. The Medical Team also raised awareness
about the causes and symptoms of cancers and asked people to take precautionary
measures.
