Kolkata: As
India observes National Cancer Awareness Day, Medella Karkinos Oncology
Institute reinforces the crucial message that early detection and timely
intervention can save lives. The Institute emphasized the importance of
awareness and cancer screening in improving treatment outcomes and reducing
cancer-related mortality.
Speaking at the session, Dr. Akther Jawade, Director
East, Karkinos Healthcare said, “Cancer remains one of the major causes of
illness and mortality in India, impacting people and families across all age
groups and communities. Despite
major advances in treatment, a large number of cases are still diagnosed at
advanced stages, when recovery becomes more challenging and survival rates
decline. Raising awareness,
encouraging prevention, and promoting early detection are crucial to changing
this reality. Keeping this in mind, Medella Karkinos Oncology Institute
(Karkinos Healthcare Kolkata) organized a special Awareness Session and Cancer
Screening, reiterating the urgent need for preventive measures to reduce the
burden of cancer. “
Dr. Akther Jawade added, “Most cancers, if detected early, are treatable. Unfortunately, a
large number of patients still come to us at advanced stages because of lack of
awareness or hesitation to undergo screening. Regular health check-ups,
awareness of early symptoms, and participation in screening programs can make a
life-saving difference. With advanced technology, modern diagnostic tools, and
precision treatment facilities now available in our country, patients can
access world-class cancer care closer to home. On this National Cancer
Awareness Day, we urge everyone to make screening a habit and take proactive
steps toward protecting their health and the health of their loved ones.”
Medella
Karkinos Oncology Institute has been actively conducting regular cancer
screening camps and awareness drives across rural and semi-urban areas of North
24 Parganas, Hooghly, Nadia and neighboring districts. These initiatives aim to
educate people about early signs of cancer, encourage timely consultation, and
ensure that preventive health becomes a routine practice.
Medella Karkinos Oncology Institute
is located at 87F, BT Road, Kamarhati, Agarpara, Kolkata 700058.
