Foundation, in collaboration with District Rural Development Cell (DRDC),
organized a transformative Buyer-Seller Meet and Training Program as part of
the Regional Saras Mela, held from January 31st to February 1st, 2025, at the
Krishnagar Government College Ground, Nadia. The event aimed to enhance the
ecosystem of FPOs (Farmer Producer Organizations) and SHGs (Self-Help Groups)
in West Bengal, fostering sustainable business relationships that could elevate
both farmers and artisans in the region.
The two-day event served as a convergence point for
agricultural enthusiasts, experts, government representatives, and key
stakeholders, allowing them to connect, collaborate, and showcase the diverse
array of agricultural products from the region. A total of 15 FPCs, 100 SHG
members, 10 producer groups and 3 CBBOs participated, presenting a wide variety
of products such as organic produce, Jute & Jute Craft, Handloom, Processed
Foods, Vegetables, Oil Seed, Date jaggery and more.
The buyer-seller meet was inaugurated by Shri. Saikat
Ganguly, WBCS (Exe.) - Project Director, DRDC Nadia and other dignitaries from
govt. line departments.
The meet was attended by over 20+buyers from across
India, including FMCGs, Wholesalers leading retailers, wholesalers, traders and
market experts, who engaged directly with farmer groups. The buyers included
Jute Corporation of India, Big Basket, MORE, Bayer Crop Science, Magisai
Traders, Vintage Aroma, Nani's Garden etc. Notably, the event facilitated 15
LOIs ensuring that farmer groups would have access to new market
opportunities and a more extensive customer base.
As noted by Shri. Saikat
Ganguly, WBCS (Exe.) - Project Director, DRDC Nadia, “This serves as a vital link
between rural entrepreneurs and buyers, equipping them with essential skills,
creating growth opportunities, and empowering women to drive sustainable
development across the region.”
A farmer member expressed, “This meet helped us connect with new buyers
and show them the value of our organic produce. Thanks to SwitchON, we now have
a better chance to grow and sell our crops."
On the second day, a comprehensive training session
was conducted by Paushtik Life. It focused on product packaging, labeling,
and quality standards, empowering farmers and artisans to align with market
expectations. Experts also provided insights on government schemes, bank
financing options, and strategies for building effective brands. The workshop
underscored the importance of sustainable practices in agriculture and the
growing market for organic products.
